Homelessness Prevention Programs

(Subject to available funding)

Durham Rent Bank helps qualified Durham singles, couples and families keep their rental housing and not become homeless by offering financial assistance for rental arrears to low income tenants. The rent bank is not intended to help tenants afford their rent.  They must be in a unit that is usually affordable for their income.

Durham Emergency Energy Fund is an interest-free loan program to help qualified low-income Durham singles, couples and families with energy related emergencies. The energy fund helps those who are usually able to afford their energy costs but due to an unexpected financial burden or unanticipated cost increase are unable to pay their heat and or hydro for a short period of time.  Financial assistance can also be given for the purchase of home heating oil or cords of wood.

Durham Community Trust Fund is an interest-free loan program that helps qualified low-income households with certain costs that may cause them top be in arrears for housing related expenses.  These expenses include water bills or mortgage arrears of up to $1500.  Financial assistance can be given for a car repair bill, when necessary for employment.

More information on any of these programs can be obtained by calling Housing Help Durham at 905-686-2661.
