Service Competency for the LGBTQ Community: A Community Asset Mapping Exercise in Durham Region

  • This report attempts to unpack the gaps and barriers within Durham Region’s services and resources for the LGBTQ community through an analysis of the data gathered from the Prideline Durham Online Survey. This report provides direction in developing best practices for improving the quality of positive spaces and services for the LGBTQ community.

Giving Voice to Poverty in the Region of Durham

  • Beginning in 2009, the Community Development Council Durham set out to better understand poverty in the Region of Durham by moving beyond the available quantitative data and statistics to examine the qualitative experiences of those who live in poverty.  The purpose of this project was to develop a local assessment of the experience of poverty in Durham in a way that could inform local policy and service practice while also contributing to provincial and federal dialogue on poverty amelioration and eradication. 

Diverse Voices: Understanding the Experience of Immigration in Durham Region (Ontario)

  • The CDCD in partnership with the Durham Local Diversity and Immigration Partnership Council (LDIPC), undertook community research, in the form of individual interviews, to find out about perceptions of and expereinces with immigration by immigrants, non-immigrants and local social service delivery organziations.

Enhancing the Social Planning and Research Capacity in North Durham and Clarington: A Community Social Profile and Needs Assessment

  • The report has two major components. The first component provides a social profile of North Durham and Clarington. The second component of the report summarizes the feedback gathered from focus group discussions and interviews conducted with local agencies and community members on the needs and expectations for social planning and research in North Durham and Clarington.  

Towards an Integrated Immigrant Service Delivery System in Durham Region: Research and Considerations for Moving Forward

  • Describes best practices and considerations for integrated service delivery at a local level, including findings from interviews with social service organizations in Durham Region.

Facing the Future Together: Connecting the Community Services Sector in the Region of Durham-Forum Report

  • A summary report of discussion topics from a community forum aimed at engaging social service sector workers around issues related to inter-agency collaboration.

Cultural Competency in the Provision of Health and Social Services – Research Results from the Region of Durham, Ontario

  • Looks at the ability of local organizations to provide meaningful and equitable service provision to the increasingly diverse population of Durham Region.

Volunteerism in Youth Sports and Recreation - Suggested Strategic Actions to Support Women and Newcomers as Volunteers

  • Discusses barriers to volunteer participation for women and newcomers in sports and recreation in Durham Region. Offers suggested strategic actions to address these barriers.

Immigrant Integration in Durham: A Discussion Paper

  • An introduction to concepts associated with immigrant integration, with the purpose to create a more in-depth understanding of the immigrant experience at the local level.

  • Identifies specific training and employment needs of the agricultural and agribusiness sector in the Region of Durham.
