About Chalmers Durham

We would like to welcome you to Chalmers, a web-app created by Ample Labs and supported by 211 Ontario, United Way Durham Region, Community Development Council Durham, The Region of Durham, and the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund.

This web-app is an artificial intelligence-powered friendly chatbot named ‚ÄúChalmers‚ÄĚ that can be used on any desktop or mobile device. Chalmers connects vulnerable individuals to the resources they need such as free meals, shelters, and emergency services in real-time (and with the click of a button!).

Ample Labs is a non-profit empowering those of us facing homelessness using technology.

Meet Daniel

Over the past 25 years, Daniel lived on the streets across 70 communities in both Canada and the United States. In 2001, Daniel decided to face his trauma, embarking on a journey of healing and recovery. Since then, Daniel has become a dedicated community advocate and leader. Daniel now works at the Back Door Mission as an outreach Peer Support Worker where he supports under-housed individuals by connecting and guiding them through various services.

It is technology like Chalmers and 211 Ontario that help Daniel and other service providers light the way for people in need of supports.

Meet Karen

Karen was living with her friends for two years before she accessed Doors of Compassion, a housing-focused shelter. Since then, she has received multiple supports, is re-connecting with her family, and is on the road to recovery with the goal of obtaining and retaining housing.

Homelessness may not be as visible as living on the streets. It is technology like Chalmers and 211 that light the way for people like Karen, connecting them to services dedicated to helping them navigate the challenges that they face.
